For July, we’re partnering with The Salvation Army. This well-known non-profit, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. See more at westernusa.salvationarmy.org.
While many of you know the Salvation Army, did you also know they have a magazine?! We were so excited to learn about their publication — check out: caringmagazine.org. Their articles span a wide range of topics, and contain thought-provoking content. Their hashtag: #goodstartswithyou pretty much sums up what this publication is all about.
While you’re checking out their articles, head on over to their “Good Stuff” page – a collection of products, services, books, apps, and more that share a common theme of doing good!!
10% of proceeds will be donated to The Salvation Army this month – please join us in supporting them!
We’re half-way into the year and couldn’t be more grateful for the support we’ve seen for us and our community partners!! Thank you!
This month, we’re featuring Defy Ventures – a non-profit that “transforms the hustle” of currently and formerly incarcerated men, women, and youth by providing entrepreneurship training, intense character and personal development, job placement, executive mentorship, startup incubation, and “Shark Tank”-style pitch competitions with prizes of up to $15,000 in startup capital per business. Leveraging a blended learning model, Defy combines the scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of video-based training with life-transforming opportunities for growth through in-person coaching and mentoring. Defy empowers “Entrepreneurs-in-Training” (or “EITs”) to launch successful careers and businesses and break generational legacies of poverty and incarceration.
We learned about Defy Ventures while channel surfing one evening and happened to stop on a PBS interview of the founder and CEO, Catherine Hoke. We were drawn by her story and the story behind Defy Ventures – please take a moment to learn more at https://defyventures.org.
10% of all proceeds from online sales in June will go directly to Defy Ventures.
We’re spotlighting another innovative nonprofit this month — their mission statement says it all: She’s the First provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries with the goal of creating first-generation graduates and our next generation of global leaders. At STF, it’s not about getting her getting school; it’s about getting her to graduation. Along the way, we equip her with all the tools she’ll need to be successful – both inside and outside of her classroom.
We were thoroughly impressed with this organization’s multi-faceted approach to ensuring young women reach their full capacity. From covering the basics (like food, clothing, and shelter) to financial assistance to personal mentorship, the team at She’s the First has clearly done their homework on how to best support and grow our next generation of female leaders. INSPIRING to say the least!
She’s the First will receive 10% of proceeds from purchases on our online store this month. We also encourage you to visit their website (https://shesthefirst.org/our-focus/) to learn about other ways to support them!
What do you see when you look at the above pattern? My first thought … an orange zig-zag … what is this … ? I am so glad my curiosity was piqued — because after learning what I did from one Instagram post to the next; and then going through their website to find even more information — I will never see an orange zig-zag in the same way again.
This month, we are truly honored to partner with Speak Your Silence, a nonprofit on a mission to conquer the stigma of child sexual abuse, fulfilled by each person who wears their symbol, #TheStitch. 100% of donations from their brand will fund in-person, one-on-one counseling for those directly affected.
We reached out to Speak Your Silence because we were not only intrigued by their mission, but we were inspired by their story. Please go to their website (speakyoursilence.org) to learn for yourself about a real-life hero who has used his story to impact and empower so many others. We couldn’t be more proud to collaborate with such an amazing and innovative non-profit.
10% of proceeds from purchases this month will be donated directly to Speak Your Silence – we hope you’ll join us in supporting them!
10% of all purchases this month will be donated to Bay Area Rescue Mission, a non-profit in Richmond, CA serving the community through meal & resource distribution, shelter provision, job & life skills training, job placement, spiritual programs & Bible classes, education, counseling, and more. Please take a moment to visit their website and learn about the wealth of services they provide.
We started our relationship with Bay Area Rescue Mission last year, making quarterly soap donations to their shelters. During our first visit to drop off some soap, we were extremely impressed by their operations and facilities; probably one of the most organized warehouses we’ve encountered! And since then, we’ve visited them several times and we’ve always been met with respect, great rapport, and downright good work ethic. It’s no surprise to us that Bay Area Rescue Mission provides job training and work opportunities to their residents because it shows! It’s a telltale sign of good leadership.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:36)
